A good run from Marine Boy yesterday, looking for a moment as if he might win. He eventually finished fifth, but the form in these Newmarket handicaps generally stands up and with luck we may win one with him sooner rather than later.
No runners today but an excellent days racing. I’ll be siding with Jeremy Noseda in the first two. I’ve heard tell that Arabian Gleam is going well at home, and that’s good enough for me in a tricky race to size up. In the Dewhurst I’ll go with Awesome Act, who beat Morana at Goodwood last time. Conditions favoured Awesome Act that day – Jane Allison told me afterwards that they had always liked the horse, and that seven furlongs on g/f was what he wanted at the moment. He gets that today, or thereabouts, so worth a look at a decent price. In the Ces I’ll go with Raslan, who is a very big price. He’s clearly not straightforward but he’s a good looker and has ability – he’s shown a little form recently and might have a big one in him. Here’s hoping.
