A poor run yet again from Captain Hurricane, finishing mid division. Pete showed yet again what a master he is with 2yos.
The ground this week has been very hard, and a lot of horses have struggled with it. I think that when it is as firm as this it becomes a bit specialist and there can be value siding with those horses that have shown that they can handle it.
In the fourth race at Redcar today I think Lady Lily ticks the boxes for a decent bet. 6f on firm ground looks ideal for her. She’s never run at the track, but she’s run well on firm ground at Bath which I think is a good proxy. She’s dropping down in class having failed to cut the ice at a higher level – her only wins have been at this grade. Her rating has fallen to a fair mark and I can’t see anything else in the race that I would want to back.
In the last at Redcar I give a chance to old Bond Diamond who won impressively on this course/distance/going six years ago. I hope he has a long memory. At Leicester in the 4.20 I’ll side with Miss Lucifer who I think would have done better last time with a better draw.
