Just one runner today – Shepherd’s Warning goes in the 8:20 at Wolver tonight. I saw her at the stables a few months ago and I did a real double take – she’s still small but she’s filled out unbelievably well in front and she looked like a different horse. She should win more races. I wouldn’t rule her out today, but Nicky’s aren’t quite firing at the moment and she may need this. I’ll be on small each way.
I’m having two bets this afternoon. The first at Sandown is a great race with a load of promising types. I’m keen on Aux le Bahnn trained by Noel Chance – he’s a classy prospect and he goes on soft ground but he’s clearly had his problems. His preparation was rushed last season and it didn’t work out – I don’t think he ever got going. He’s the type to progress with time and he might be ready to show his best today.
In the 2:10 at Kelso Hello Bud comes out for Nigel Twiston-Davies having moved from David Wintle’s yard last year. He may benefit from the move, he has a talented pilot and he likes a slog in the mud. With the stable in such good form he feels like a solid bet.
