A tough day yesterday with no winners. Switcher was just edged out of the places, which was a blow. I had my biggest bet of the day on the wrong French horse in the Coronation Stakes, which was annoying. All in all a poor day for the finances.
Today is a big day for a friend of mine called DOR – he has been waiting all week for Bewitched to come out and he will be happy with the rain. I think that in these conditions she is the one – worth backing even at cramped odds.
In the first I’m backing Falls of Lora. She is beautifully bred and looked the part last time – her mother handled the soft ground extremely well but Street Cry is not an obvious stallion for the prevailing conditions. I don’t have any reliable information as to whether she will handle it so a small bet only.
Blue Jack goes in the Wokingham. He’s very well – possibly as well as we have ever had him. He goes in softish ground but whether he will handle it this soft over this trip remains to be seen. I’m hoping he will go well.
I have bits of some other runners at Haydock – Gin Twist and Malpas Missile. Of the two I prefer the former but she was disappointing last time – if you can draw a line through that (and it was very quickly after her first run) then she may be worth an interest.
