Four runners today at three different courses – I won’t be there for any of them as I’m at a wedding.
First up is the current star of the string Blue Jack, and I feel really good about him. He had a poor draw last time and he gave away a lot of ground to get cover. He was making his move as they went into the dip, but it surprised him and he momentarily lost his action and momentum – he finished a close third. Today the conditions are a lot better. It’s a flat track which should suit as he’s a big horse and he doesn’t handle undulations as well as some. He’s drawn next to Equiano who will burst from the stalls and front run – he may be able to get a perfect tow. He’s my bet of the day.
Toucan Tango goes in the 3:50 at Goodwood and I own a small piece – I think he’ll need it. Maxwell Hawke goes at Lingfield, as does Cheddar George who is making his debut. Maxwell is a classic morning glory – very few horses can live with him at home but he doesn’t reproduce it on the track. I will continue to back him, but only small. Cheddar is the best looking horse I’ve ever owned, and if looks matter then he may become a champion. I asked Brian if I should back him and he said no – he needs it. I’m going to have a small bet anyway – he might surprise.
Tom has several runners around the country – it’s been a fairly lacklustre start to the season but the horses are slowly coming right. Jonny Mudball is a horse that goes extremely well at home, but has disappointed thus far – he may go well, as may Classic Gem. Fingers crossed.
