Bert is due back today but is scheduled to land just too late to get to Newbury in time to see his debutant two year old Marine Boy (2:10). I will be going in the hope of having a trophy to collect. Marine Boy has shown he has ability at home, as his Gimcrack entry suggests, but the pitfalls of backing first time out youngsters was illustrated by his trainer’s Noverre To Go yesterday – a certain winner but for running grren when being sent to the front. Another concern is that a couple of other two year olds that Tom sent to the course for the time this week disappointed. However, his horses continue to run well in general and Marine Boy seems fine. We would have preferred to be drawn nearer the rail but are hopeful that he can be there or thereabouts.
