A fantastic result at Sandown today with Effingham coming second in his maiden. I’m extremely positive, for a number of reasons;
- He clearly needed the run and will come on a lot for it
- He ran green, missing the break a little and he lost ground jumping the walkway
- Sandown maidens are generally pretty good (although I’m not so sure about this one)
- The first and third had run before. The first, third and fourth are all sprint bred whereas Effingham is middle distance and should improve as he steps up to further
He’s a lovely horse – as strong as an ox but with a laid back attitude. Up until today I’ve known very little about him – with most of my 2yos I’ve had regular reports on how they have been going well before they hit the racecourse, but Effingham had a sore shin for quite a while and he hasn’t done much work. I’ll be looking forward to his next run.
